The AugDog Days of Summer

I hope everyone has been enjoying summer so far! I love summer! Dr. Wolf does not teach during the summer, so he does lots of writing work from home. You know what that means:

Lots of napping. LOTS.

But JK is working now, so most of our Family Fun happens on the weekends. Like the time we got to go to the Morton Arboretum together for Tails on the Trails.

JK and Dr. Wolf go here all the time WITHOUT ME. But for two days every year, you are allowed to bring your dog family members to the lovely trails. We had a good time, except for the mosquitoes. Mosquitoes are no fun for anyone.

A couple of weeks ago, Dr. Wolf and I went to the flower shop where JK works so we could have a family picnic for dinner in the park across from the shop.

I always feel so awkward when I'm up in the air like this. 

Sometimes we just hang out in our backyard

And some days, like today, we all go on an adventure together.

Really? We're all going to go together? 

I got to ride in the car with the wind blowing on my face. I love that. 

We went to a place called Downers Grove. They have a little main street with lots of shops that allow you to bring your dog right into the shop! That's why we go there. Those Downers Grovians are cool to share their space with pups.

Usually we just go to the store that sells dog snacks and dog things and then into the book store and sometimes to an outdoor cafe. But today Dr. Wolf disappeared into a building and came out with a big paper cup.

Wait a second. Is that Peanut Butter Frozen Yogurt?

Joy!

I think I'm gonna need my teeth to really clean that spoon.

We shared a big cup of FroYo and sat on a bench and watched other people and dogs walk around. It was a beautiful day.

I never give JK the satisfaction of looking directly at the camera.

Red Door "Gimme Shelter" Walk!

Today JK and Mr. Wolf took me to a big party just for dogs and their people. They told me that it was a party to help raise money for Red Door, which is the place that took me in when I didn't have any place to go, and helped JK and Mr. Wolf find me. I was very happy to help Red Door raise more money so that they can help more pups. (JK reminded me that they also help cats and rabbits). The party was called the "Gimmer Shelter Walk".

But I don't really like things around my neck, so JK took it off before we got started on the walk. Here is a picture of lots of the dogs and their people on the walk:

There were all kinds of dogs there!

It was a very good day, and I got to make some new friends, and even re-meet an old friend, Bonnie, who took care of me for a little while before JK and Mr. Wolf adopted me. JK told me that she is called a "foster mom" for Red Door. 

Bonnie has a dog of her own, too, and he and I had met when she took care of me. I didn't remember him at first, but then I did, and we started to be friends again. His name is Charles.

Charles and I look a little bit alike, don't you think?

 JK and Mr. Wolf and I had a very good day at the park today. I'm very glad that so many dogs and their people came out to help Red Door!

White Christmas

JK and Mr. Wolf and I have been so busy these last three days.  We have been many places in the car, we have been to several houses, and I have had lots to eat and a lot to see. And there has been a lot of snow, so everything is white! 

First, two days ago, JK came home from work and then she and Mr. Wolf and I drove to the big store that has animal food and toys.  I think that they think that I like to go there with them.  I like to ride in the car and be with my people, but that big store is scary to me.  Especially this time, because I got my claws clipped.  The claw-clipper lady was very nice and gentle, but I still didn't like it.  I was very glad to get out of there.  I did get 3 new kinds of treats, so it wasn't all bad. 

Then we came home, and it was Christmas Eve-Eve, so I got to have a special night of eating treats and opening presents just for me.

Nice!  A new fuzzy fleece blanket for me to sleep on.

I also got a toy in my stocking, and a lots of smooches from JK and Mr. Wolf.  We were all very tired after all the excitement.



When I am stretched out like this, I feel very tall.

Then the next day, JK and Mr. Wolf and I got in the car and drove a long way to JK's sister's house.  JK's sister and her husband have two very happy dogs and many squawky birds.  I also met JK's brother and his wife.  They were nice to me and complemented my soft fur. 

Then we left there and went to another house with many people, some babies, and the biggest dog I have ever seen.  JK put me into my crate and put me in a room all by myself, but I wanted to be out in the party with everyone, so I opened my crate and went to the door of the room to bark so that they would let me out.  JK heard me and so she and Mr. Wolf took turns carrying me around so that I would not get hurt by people's feet or eaten by the big dog.  The big dog was very nice, but still.  She could have eaten me for dinner with one bite.  Mr. Wolf said that I was a ninja, because I figured out how to get out of my crate twice that night.

When we left the big party, we got in the car AGAIN and went to Mr Wolf's parents' house.  I like it there, and everyone is getting used to having me around.  I showed some of the cats that I was the boss even though it was not my house, and Mr. Wolf said it was lucky that one of the cats didn't scratch my face off.  Ha!  I will show them.  No cat is going to mess with me!  JK and Mr. Wolf and his family opened more presents and stayed up late.  Then we all went to sleep.  I was so sleepy!  I didn't even wake up one time all night.

JK and I drove Mr. Wolf to the airport this afternoon because he had to leave to go to an important meeting.  It was just JK and me all night.  She mostly watched movies and read a magazine, and I napped after the long days of travel and food.  When we came in from our night time walk, I decided I would like to go onto the computer and check to see the weather in Boston, and make sure Mr. Wolf will be able to come home in a couple of days. 

Looks like a blizzard is heading for Boston!

Don't worry, Mr. Wolf.  You will come home very soon.  I'll keep the couch warm for you.

And that was my first Christmas with my new people.  It was pretty great.  I even got a bite of sausage last night from JK's cousin!  It was deeeelishous.  4 out of 5 Cheesy Treats.  If it had been covered in cheese, it would have been a 5 out of 5 for sure.
